Entry requirements, visas and customs for Hong Kong

Customs regulations can change at any time — always check current rules before you travel.

Visa for Hong Kong

Citizens of most EU/Schengen countries, the US, UK, Canada and Australia can stay in Hong Kong for up to 90 days without a visa. Business activity is not permitted on a visitor stay — a work visa is required for that. An arrival card must be filled out on entry; the stub is used as your departure card (a new one can also be issued at the airport if needed).

Hong Kong customs

Duty-free allowances are 60 cigarettes or 15 cigars, 75g of tobacco, and 1 liter of spirits. Certain antibiotics are also subject to import restrictions. The Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department website has current details.

Bringing pets into Hong Kong

Importing animals is subject to strict rules — check well in advance. In general you will need:

A health certificate no more than 14 days old, issued by a licensed veterinarian.
Required vaccinations completed no less than 30 days and no more than 6 months before entry.
An import permit issued by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, valid for 30 days.
Quarantine periods vary depending on the animal's country of origin.
