Buses in China

Updated 12 September 2026

You buy bus tickets directly from the conductor on board — just name your destination and hand over the fare, and the conductor will give you a ticket. Fares are typically 1–2 yuan depending on the route, sometimes more for longer distances.

Buses in big cities are usually crowded, so keep an eye on your belongings.

Long-distance buses in China

Some smaller cities can't be reached by train or plane, so long-distance buses fill the gap. Tickets can be bought directly at the bus station or through a travel agency in town. Sleeper buses are also available for longer routes.
