General Information: | More than 98% of the inhabitants are Han-Chinese. Minorities are: the Yao, Zhuang, Hui, Manchu and She; members of almost all minorities of China are living in Guangdong province. In Guangdong (Canton) most people speak Cantonese and there are few inhabitants who speak Mandarin. Guangdong was one of the first provinces which had contact with Western countries. Guangdong has developed to one of the economic centres of China since the 1970s. It has the three special economy zones Shenzhen, Shantou and Zhuhai |
