Suzhou is located in the South of Jiangsu Province, about 50 miles west of Shanghai. The gardens of Suzhou are world-famous, one of the nicest ones is wangshiyuan, the " garden of the master of the nets ". Suzhou is one of the most beautiful towns of China.

During  the Ming-Dynasty Nanjing was the capital of China for only a short time. You can still see the town gates of Nanjing from that time. Nanjing became famous because of the firstnso-called unequal treaties after the first Opiumwar (Treaty of Nanjing).

The Nanjing massacre took place in Nanjin in 1937 when Japanese troops killed approx. 300,000 Chinese. The Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre (datusha jinianguan) remind the visitor of this event. The Chinese regard the Nanjing massacre as the worst war crime of the Second World War. Sun Yatsen’s grave (Sun Zhongshan) is also located in Nanjing. On mainland China as well as on Taiwan he is celebrated as the founder of an independent China.
