The capital Changsha is one of the pilgrim's towns for the Chinese people who want to walk on Mao Zedong’s traces. Mao Zedong went to school in Changsha between 1913 and 1918. Shaoshan is located south of Changsha and was Mao Zedong’s place of birth. Shaoshan presents a good picture of the Mao cult even in today´s China.

Zhangjiajie is one of the most fascinating sceneries in China and home of China's first forest park - the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park with the World Natural Heritage Site "Wulingyuan".

General Information:           

90% of the inhabitants are Han-Chinese. Several minorities live in this province (Tujia, Miao, Dong, Yao ...).

The border area between Hunan and Jiangxi was one of the strongholds of the communists until they were forced to flee to the North (the famous Long March).
