Preparations for the Olympics 2008

The whole of China celebrated the 1-year-countdown to the opening of the Olympic Games 2008 on 08-08-08. Preparations have been intensified as China nears the opening of the games. The work on the construction of the Olympic sports facilities, the training of policeman and also the ‘beautification’ of Beijing is well on the way.


China's Human Rights Countdown

Celebrations in Tiananmen Square on August 8th 2007 marked exactly one year to go until the opening of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Despite the jubilations, China is still facing harsh criticism from human rights organisations such as Amnesty International and accusations of not fulfilling promises of improving human rights in the country.


Xicheng and Fangshan Olympic Celebrations

The Xicheng and Fangshan Olympic Countdown Celebrations took place in the Xicheng Culture Centre and was organised by the Xicheng District Culture Commission. The show took place between 15.00 and 16.30 on the 8th August and included dance, music and comedic performances.
